We are all fanatical about the impact of agile and lean practices on the speed and quality of software development, and the improved relationship’s built between business and IT teams. Our hands-on approach to “leading by doing” in a team can rapidly establish agile practices and more importantly demonstrate results..
As software engineering enthusiasts we have many years of practical experience with a variety of delivery and management approaches, including RUP, RINO, agile, fragile, CMM, ITIL, PRINCE/2, ISO and the strangely ubiquitous waterfall.
Having seen each of these approaches in practice, and worked with many large and small enterprises we know one size does not fit all, and that change is difficult.
We strongly believe that to be a true Agile Coach, a hands-on approach is needed. As a result we immerse ourselves in a client’s team and apply the right practices for the customer’s environment.
For example in a large, established, change resistant organisation with several complex outsource relationships, a complete Lifecycle change would have been impractical at best. Black Pepper were able to demonstrate the benefit of some agile techniques that had a major impact. For instance we implemented automated integration and deployment processes that reduced system releases time-scale from a week to a day, and reduced defects. This increased the business’ confidence and in turn they were able to be more responsive to their customers.
Similarly if organisations are reengineering their software engineering processes strategically using agile and iterative approaches (e.g. agile, XP, lean, Rational Unified Process etc) our hands-on approach can fit well with the organisational change. Process improvement initiatives deliver tangible results more quickly with both a top down and bottom up approach and improved processes are adopted faster with the right mix of training and hands on leadership.
We’d love to discuss how we can help your organisation get the benefits of agile, and to share more success stories with you.
As well as being a stand alone service, we often combine agile coaching with our build services. Here are some examples of our work :
