Thomson was losing market share to on-line operators, and were limited by inflexible “package holiday” systems. TUI needed to revolutionise its business model, letting customers build their own flexible holiday packages by picking dynamically from several provider's accommodation and transportation inventory. Black Pepper lead the architecture team that defined and delivered a web architecture that integrated dozens of flight, car hire and accommodation providers with TUI's existing systems. This resulted in TUI taking a leading position on-line, with the platform transacting 60% of TUI's revenue in the UK and £1.2bn per year.
In addition, Black Pepper has helped develop significant portions of the Thomson Holidays and Thomsonfly web sites, together with a number of internal back office systems. We have also helped TUI define and implement its IT architecture across different parts of the organisation and helped integrate systems for both small and large volume brands. We have provided performance testing, analysis and tuning skills on a number of systems and delivered significant benefits and cost savings
